    Max At Love Hate Apparel

We caught up Max – part time beard model and founder of Love & Hate Apparel, check out his interview here and learn more about his brand and other passions.

Can you try to give our readers a bit of a background on yourself, a quick spill about things you are into?

I am a full-time primary school teacher and really love my job. I am a part-time beard model and recently setup my own company Love & Hate Apparel. I never used to have a beard – I started growing one and was then approached by a local magazine who liked my look, this led onto further opportunities of working with some great brands, which I have loved.

    Any other interests?

I am a big movie geek, I love watching films in my spare time. I am a proud dad and enjoy watching my son play football and rugby, I like my sports.

Can you try to take us through your daily routine when it comes to beard care? Do you use products like oils and waxes? Do you have any specific brands that you prefer?

I wash my beard every day, it is important to make sure that you wash your beard every day to keep it clean and nourished. I tend to use Mr Natty face scrub and beard soap, a quality brand with some great skin care products. In terms of oils and waxes, I use FellowSeg and Apothecary87 – their oils are great, I don’t have a favourite scent as I like them all.

Do you trim and maintain your facial hair on your own, or do you only let your barber handle it? Who is your ‘go to’ guy for trimming and maintenance?

I only trim my beard when taking care of it myself, for shaping and trims I visit Joel at Slunks, Cardiff. I trust him with my beard and would highly recommend his service to anyone. I usually get a trim ever 3 to 4 weeks to make sure my beard keeps its shape.

Do you feel as though your beard has opened you up to new opportunities? We see you have done some modelling.

Most definitely, I never knew that having a beard would have opened me up to so many opportunities. I have been able to meet some great people from the beard world, it is true what they say about the bearded community – it does feel like I am part of a brotherhood.

We see you have your own brand also, Love&HateApparel, tell us more about this company.

I was involved with other brands on photoshoots, modelling etc and wanted to try to emulate this for myself. I spoke to several contacts in the industry who were very supportive of the brand and pushed me to launch it, the rest is history. I always stay humble and thank the people who help, I think it is important to stay humble in the community.

What are your plans moving forward for the brand?

I am currently working on a winter collection, I am keeping it under wraps at the moment but I am excited about it. I want the brand to grow bigger and reach more urban gentleman.

Lastly, which bearded model would you most like to work with?

I would say David Beckham, I know he has a mini beard but I love his style and how we always looks like a dapper gentleman. In terms of the beard world – I would say either Ricki Hall or Carlos Costa, two big characters who are genuinely great guys.
