    Control Thick Hair

Ever struggled with thick hair and wondered how you can manage it? Check out our top tips for making the most of this hair type, styling through to grooming.

So you have started to grow your hair out, not only is your beard looking good but your head hair is getting longer and thicker. This is a common problem amongst men, it often leads to out of control follicles and some amazing caveman impressions. Whilst most men would love to have thick luscious hair, there are styling challenges that thick hair brings. Luckily, we have some great tips to help keep that mane tamed!

    Shave it off

The easiest of options, get rid of it! This is the last thing you want to do but you probably feel that it is the only choice. A simple buzzcut can work as a great alternative, we suggest that you ask your barber to shorten your hair but try and keep the thickness medium whilst maintaining some of the length. Let it Grow

A major problem that men with thick hair face is that their hair can often stand up when cut too short, making it hard to style effectively. If you didn’t want to lose the length, try working with a longer style. You want to keep the weight of the hair which will improve the growth speed, a good tip for this is layering which will help remove the thickness. A longer style will give you more hair to mould into shape, mid style lengths rarely work well.

    Style It

Styling products are the essential tool in any gentleman’s armoury, from strong holding matt clay to hairspray. Using these products will give you control over your thick and will allow you to move the hair in direction you desire.

For thick hair, you need to use a quality pomade or strong holding wax – the more product you use in your hair, the stronger the hold. Try not to apply bucket loads as you don’t want your hair to appear greasy.

    Don’t Blow Dry

One of the common misconceptions is that longer or thicker hair takes hours to dry, often people blow dry for time saving purposes. For people with thicker hair, this is a bad move as the hair often becomes thicker and its volume increases.

If you usually wash your hair in the morning, try switching up you routine and washing it on the evening before. Make sure you give it a few hours to dry out properly (don’t want to wake up with uncontrollable hair stuck to your face). If you are one of those people that can only wash it in the morning, use a cooler setting and blow dry your hair downwards to avoid creating too much volume.

    Condition your hair

It is very important that you use a high quality shampoo and conditioner for you hair, you need to keep your soft, clean and manageable. After shampooing, apply a palmful of conditioner into your hair and massage it into your scalp with a wide tooth comb. Leave in for several minutes then wash out with warm water, the trick is to then run your shower cold and rinse thoroughly.
