    Michael Legge

We caught up with British beard champion Michael Legge, he is an an award winning bearded legend and has become a heroic figure in the bearded community. Check out his interview below:

Can you try to give our readers a bit of a background on yourself, a quick spill about things you are into?

Hi, my name is michael legge I’m 29 years old and have been growing my beard for 4 years 3 months now, with no intentions of shaving any time soon.

Congratulations on your British Beard championship title, what made you start growing such epic facial hair?

My beard started off as a New Years resolution (new years eve 2010) me and 2 friends decided to grow a ‘big beard’. 3 months in 1 guy dropped out and another 3 months the other guy (who is now approaching his yeard) @mikeellison6, since growing my beard I started to enter competitions across the UK, I’ve won countless 1st place titles and even won the British championship in sept 2014, now I’m all booked and ready to head to Austria this October for the ‘world championships’, I even have my face on a beer pump and bottles.

What other things are you passionate about? (Except your beard)

My spare Time is mostly taken up with my 2 children (Hannah 5, George 2) but when I have time to my self I enjoy skateboarding.

Can you try to take us through your daily routine when it comes to beard care? Do you use products like oils and waxes? Do you have any specific brands that you prefer?

I take a lot of time when grooming my facial hair washing every other day, but using oil most days. I use @apothecary87 products, their scents are incredible!

Who is your ‘go to’ guy for trimming and maintenance?

When it comes to maintainence i do have my beard trimmed every 6 months but will only trust my wife to do so @mrs_legge90.

Do you feel as though your beard has opened you up to new opportunities? We can see that you are an ambassador for our friend’s @apothecary87.

Having a beard has made me more of a confident person, often getting recognised in the streets and stopped for photos, I’ve become some what of a local celebrity. Last year I was asked to be part of a book called project60 showcasing 60 of the worlds greatest beards the book should be hitting shelves March 2015.

What challenges do you face having such a long beard?

Sometimes daily life can become challenging with a beard at waist length, common daily challengers are using zips on jackets, eating types of foods, rolling over on my beard when sleeping.

What is the one bearded piece of wisdom you would like to share with our readers?

If I could give any advise to someone thinking of growing a beard is just to be patient, don’t be jealous of what others have got, embrace what you have and work with it, we are all different.

Lastly, which are your favourite Instagram pages that you can’t live without?
