4 Foods To Make You Happy

There is one thing that makes us all happy, that’s sunshine! Unfortunately, Summer doesn’t last all year round and there is a time when people just need cheering up. You will be surprised to know that one of these ways is actually through food (and not your favourite bar of chocolate or a greasy burger). Check out 5 super foods that will kick-start your mood and spirit.

    Almonds

Almonds are not only a ‘super food’ but are also a ‘super nut’, they help boost your serotonin and help transmit neurological pulses through your body to boost your mood and decrease your appetite. Scientists have concluded that subjects with lower than average serotonin levels are at a higher risk of depression and anxiety. We suggest replacing that naughty mid afternoon snack with a handful of almonds, you’ll get your nutrient kick of zinc and other essential minerals.

    Oats

We touched upon the importance of sleep in our previous article – 8 Ways To Sleep Better, a poor sleep routine can severely affect your productivity and memory, whilst leaving you grumpy and agitated. Foods with higher melatonin (the hormone that assists your sleeps cycles) have been proven to help us sleep better and wake up feeling happier. Oats can help increase these melatonin levels and can be mixed with a variety of other healthy ingredients such as dried fruit, honey and cinnamon.

    Salmon

Fish oils are the cornerstone of any healthy diet and provide enough quantities of essential fatty acids to help support your vision and brain functions. Salmon is packed full of these essential omega 3 oils which can increase your productivity and effectively increase your happiness throughout the day. It’s such a diverse fish and can be eaten a variety of ways, try switching your breakfast to eggs, salmon and muffins for that healthy kick-start to the day.

    Coconut Water and Coconut Oil

Coconuts are taking over the world, not literally but they have seen a huge rise in popularity and are a versatile fruit, seed and nuts. Coconut water is loaded with naturally sterile electrolytes, which feed your pH and muscle function whilst keeping your hydrated with isotonics. Hydration is very important to help reduce fatigue, sadness and the ability to think clearly. The oil from a coconut contains specific fats called medium chain triglycerides which have been linked to stress relief. Coconut oil also contains a high concentration of minerals, vitamins and amino acids which enhance your mood, concentration and mental performance.
