Choosing the right razor is key to the best possible shave. We take a look at some of the different types of razor that are available in the market today.
Electric
Electric razors are great as an introductory to shaving or for shaping and maintenance. They can also come in handy if you don’t have very much hair to care for. They do not shave a close as any manual razor and the shave will only last a fraction as long.
That said if you are looking to shape up your shave and don’t expect to be clean shaven for a while, an electric razor can give you much more control and ease of use. This is also why it is perfect for a beginning shaver. Make sure the blades are clean and sharp or you may still get nicked up.
Cartridge
Cartridge razors are the worst, but they do get the job done and are cheap. Unfortunatly with cartridge razors the hair can get stuck between the blades and this can lead to tug-and-pull discomfort and ingrown hairs.
The more blades typically leads to a “safer” more comfortable shave. Play with a few but if you experience tug-and-pull move on immediatley. These are more low-quality mass produced.
Safety
This old school relic is making a comeback and for good reason. Because there is only 1 blade there is no tug and pull to worry about. You may have to shave a single spot a few times depending on how much hair you have, but the shave will be close and clean.
Be careful as this razor is more dangerous then modern alternatives, but it is still the best. Make sure you learn how to properly use the razor for best results and safety. If you experience discomfort with cartridge razors you should give this one a try.
Straight Blade
The classic. For experts only. Be very careful with this razor and take the time to learn how to use it. Make sure you keep the blade sharp and it will keep your shave superclose. This razor is essentially a weapon though so excersize exteme caution.
If you are passionate about shaving you should give a serious consideration to this old-world classic. If you experience discomfort with cartridge razors you should give this one a try.
