Ever considered growing a beard? Since 2011, Beating Bowel Cancer has invited men to partake in Decembeard and raise money to help those that are affected. Through sponsored – you guessed it – grow a beard.
A hairy challenge to help beat UK’s second biggest cancer killer
Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cause of cancer deaths. Of the 100 people diagnosed every day, almost half will die. Yet, in over 90% of cases, bowel cancer can be successfully treated if diagnosed early enough. That is why it is so important to be aware of the symptoms and act on them. If you are suffering from any of the following symptoms for three weeks or more then please seek advice from your GP:
- Bleeding from the bottom
- A change in bowel habit
- Abdominal pain especially if severe
- A lump in your tummy
- Weight loss and tiredness
In 2014, the campaign saw over 3000 men raise £320,000 to help fund Beating Bowel Cancer’s work supporting people affected by bowel cancer and raising awareness of the disease, its symptoms and the importance of early diagnosis. 2014 also saw major partnerships for the first time, with Loreal Men Expert, Just for Men and HISTORY getting on board.
Decembeard 2015 aims to be even bigger and better, so join the manly ranks and down your razor this December! Keep up to date with everything beard-related on Twitter and Instagram @Decembeard_UK and on Facebook facebook.com/DecembeardUK
